An Israeli settler was killed in a shooting near the Halamish settlement, built on Palestinian land west of Ramallah last weekend.
At least 14 settler attacks were recorded Saturday evening across Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Hebron, Nablus and Bethlehem governorates, according to the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, cited by Anadolu.
The settler was shot near a natural spring where settlers had gathered. The 30-year-old man was taken to a hospital where he died of his wounds, police said. Israeli authorities said a suspected Palestinian gunman opened fire from a vehicle before fleeing. He was later wounded and arrested by Israeli forces at a hospital in Ramallah.
The shooting was then followed by a wider Israeli military crackdown. At least 53 Palestinians were arrested in the nearby town of Biddu during raids on Monday, with schools and businesses shut as the area was placed under lockdown. Israeli forces also raided the hospital where the suspected shooter was being treated.
Meanwhile, around 570 Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa compound by Sunday morning, according to the Palestinian Jerusalem Governorate.
The developments came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited tunnels beneath the Western Wall and participated in Yom Kippur prayers, while Israeli forces increased their presence across the occupied West Bank. The incidents highlight the escalating tensions surrounding both settler activity in the West Bank and access to Al-Aqsa.
