Israeli forces have raided the Jenin home of Palestinian journalist Ali al-Samoudi, assaulting his son and ordering the journalist to turn himself in.
The raid comes just months after al-Samoudi was released from Israeli detention, where he had been held without charge for a year. He was arrested in April 2025 and released on 30 April 2026. During his detention, al-Samoudi reported being beaten, starved and denied medication, suffering severe weight loss and other health problems. He has described conditions involving torture and egregious mistreatment.
On Saturday, Israeli forces entered his home while he was away and reportedly assaulted his son. His family was then given an ultimatum for al-Samoudi to surrender, with soldiers threatening to return and arrest him if he did not.
Al-Samoudi is a veteran journalist who has spent decades reporting from Jenin and the occupied West Bank. He was also alongside fellow journalist Shireen Abu Akleh when she was killed by Israeli fire in Jenin in 2022, and was himself shot and wounded during the incident.
The latest raid has renewed concerns over the treatment of Palestinian journalists, particularly those reporting on Israeli military operations in the occupied West Bank.
