Three Israeli reservists accused of gang-raping a Palestinian detainee at Sde Teiman are now suing the Israeli state for $6 million, alleging wrongful arrest, false accusations of a sexual offence, defamation and a wrongful indictment.
The men were among five soldiers charged in 2025 over the alleged assault of a Palestinian detainee, who was reportedly beaten, tasered and seriously injured during the incident. Surveillance footage of the assault was later leaked and broadcast, prompting international condemnation.
The charges were dropped in March 2026 after Israel’s military advocate general said that the detainee’s return to Gaza and the leaking of investigation material had created difficulties for securing a fair trial. The decision was welcomed by Israeli officials, while rights groups condemned it as a failure to hold perpetrators of serious abuses accountable.
Now, three of the reservists are seeking compensation from the state, the military, police and other officials. The soldiers claim that the investigation and subsequent leak of surveillance footage unlawfully harmed them.
