Medics reported on Wednesday 6 May that Colonel Naseem al-Kalazani, a senior police officer, was killed after an Israeli strike targeted his vehicle near the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. At least 17 others were injured in the attack.
Elsewhere, Israeli attacks continued across Gaza, with at least three Palestinians killed near the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, according to staff at al-Ahli Arab Hospital, raising the day’s death toll to at least four.
Despite the US-brokered ceasefire that took effect in October, violence has continued across Gaza. Israel has carried out near-daily attacks on civillians in Gaza.
According to local medics, at least 830 Palestinians have been killed during the ceasefire period. Israel’s security cabinet reportedly met earlier this week to discuss restarting its full military offensive after Hamas refused its demand for complete disarmament.
Although some aid has entered Gaza following the reopening of the Zikim crossing, the UN’s humanitarian office says conditions on the ground continue to worsen.
Since October 2023, more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocide on Gaza.
