Attorney Nasser Odeh, the lawyer of the abducted Palestinian physician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya said that Israel rejected the appeal challenging the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and approved the continuation of his imprisonment under the so-called ‘Unlawful Combatant Law,’ without any charges being filed against him.
Dr. Abu Safiya was abducted by Israeli forces from his hospital in northern Gaza on 27 December 2024. He has been denied adequate food, water, and medical care and has reportedly lost more than a third of his body weight.
Moreover, Odeh underscored that the decision stands ‘in clear contradiction to international law and the Geneva Conventions’, which provide special protection for medical personnel during arm-d conflicts.
Dr. Abu Safiya remains held in solitary confinement at Nafha Prison under harsh detention conditions, while being denied necessary medical treatment and the most basic rights guaranteed to him.
