Greece Moves Forward With War Crimes Case Against Israeli Military Officer

A criminal investigation in Greece targeting Israeli military officer Yair Ohana has taken a significant step forward after lawyers for the Hind Rajab Foundation appeared before an investigative judge in Athens and submitted additional evidence supporting allegations of war crimes, torture and genocide in Gaza. The case, first filed in September 2025, remains active under the Greek judicial system.

The complaint accuses Ohana, a major in the Israeli military’s Givati Brigade, of playing a central role in the destruction of civilian neighbourhoods in northern Gaza and the mistreatment of Palestinian detainees. The Hind Rajab Foundation argues that Greece has a legal obligation under international law to investigate individuals accused of serious international crimes when they are present on its territory.

Foundation director Dyab Abou Jahjah welcomed the latest development, describing it as an important step towards ending impunity for alleged crimes committed in Gaza. The organisation said it hopes Greek authorities will continue pursuing the investigation and ensure there is ‘no safe haven’ for people committing war crimes.

The case is one of a growing number of legal actions launched across multiple countries seeking accountability for Israeli war crimes in Gaza through the principle of universal jurisdiction.
