British-Jordanian A&E doctor Dr Nadeem Crowe is suing the Royal Free London NHS Trust after he was suspended mid-shift over social media posts critical of Israel and supportive of Palestinians. Crowe says the posts were made on a private account in his own time and did not identify his employer.
Crowe says he was suspended from hospital work without being told the details of the complaint against him and was pressured to delete his posts to avoid a full investigation. His suspension was lifted after the posts were removed, but he later brought claims of discrimination, harassment and race-related bias linked to his anti-Zionist beliefs and Palestinian heritage.
Having worked at the hospital for around 15 years, Crowe says the trust's handling of the case left him unable to return to work. The NHS trust denies that disciplinary action was taken and is contesting the claims at an ongoing employment tribunal in London.
