EuroPal Forum hosted a special seminar marking the annual United Nations Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Wednesday, 29 November 2017, under the title: “How to End 70 Years of Injustice?” The seminar held particular significance as it coincided with the 70th anniversary of UN Resolution 181, which laid the foundation for the so-called Two-State Solution, and the centenary of the Balfour Declaration — both of which have been central to discussions on the future of Palestine and justice for its people.
The event was hosted and chaired by Tommy Sheppard MP (Scottish National Party).
Key highlights
- Marked 70 years since UN Resolution 181 and 100 years since the Balfour Declaration, sparking reflection on decades of unresolved injustice.
- Tommy Sheppard MP and Professor Manuel Hassassian stressed the urgent need for political will and implementation of international resolutions.
- Hugh Lanning and Baroness Jenny Tonge highlighted grassroots mobilisation and public accountability as essential to ending the occupation.
- Emphasis on international law, human rights, and broad-based solidarity, with participation from MPs, civil society, and advocacy groups.
